The next official entry in the never-ending Call of Duty series is simply called Modern Warfare. Apart from the returning to the fan-favourite setting with a so-called “soft reboot,” the newest title is mostly interesting due to the fact that it’ll get the full cross-play support.
But how is it going to work actually? Thanks to a rather lengthy Forbes article, we’ve learned the first details. The article was referenced by Infinity Ward’s producer, which means that it’s credible and trustworthy. So, the core mechanics are fairly close to what we have in Fortnite. Generally, the cross-play feature in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will place together players with similar input devices. In other words, if you are using a controller on PC, you’ll be able to play and team up with gamers on PS4 and Xbox One who will also use controllers. Another case is when you play on PS4 or Xbox One and decide to team up with your friend on PC using mouse and keyboard – this will result in placing your squad together with players using any kind of input devices. Therefore, the indisputable general advantage of PC players in shooters will be commonly avoided, and they won’t be able to abuse their console fellows.
It is worth mentioning that Infinity Ward might be forced to alter the overall mechanics close to the release date, but we do hope that the cross-play feature will be implemented just the way it is right now. Hopefully, nothing spoils the cross-platform experience.
