The very first public gameplay demonstration of Cyberpunk 2077 has proved that CD Project RED took the right direction in overall design choices. The game looked fierce, detailed, mature, and deeply atmospheric despite the fact that the genre of cyberpunk is mostly associated with nightlife. The developers were confident enough to show the light of day in Cyberpunk 2077, and this particular decision might - or might not - be credited to the original creative director of the game, Sebastian Stępień.
Unfortunately, Stępień will not make any more creative decisions throughout the development process as he has reportedly left CD Project RED to join Blizzard. One of the users of ResetEra forums claims that this information is taken directly from Sebastian's account on LinkedIn. His profile now mentions Blizzard as his most recent place of employment where he took the role of creative director. There's no information regarding the project he's working on, sadly. All we can do is to speculate that an experienced RPG developer is most efficient only when he sticks to the genre, in which case the most obvious assumption would be an unannounced Diablo project. Unless there's a completely original RPG in the works, of course.
Stępień has spent twelve and a half years with CD Project RED, and this should be somewhat of a painful departure for the Polish studio. On the other hand, Cyberpunk 2077 might've already reached the final stages of development, thus leaving the creative director without the actual work to do. We are likely to hear of Sebastian's successor in the foreseeable future.
