For the first time ever, a Call of Duty game will be getting cross-platform play, allowing players on PC, PlayStation and Xbox to play with one another. However, this presents a new problem.
Console players traditionally use controllers while PC players make use of a mouse and keyboard. Depending on the game, this provides more precision in aiming and rotating the screen, especially with regard to first person shooters. In order to balance the playing field, console players will now be able to use a keyboard and mouse when playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Speaking with PlayStation Blog, Infinity Ward design director Joe Cecot informed them about Modern Warfare's matchmaking, which will take the peripherals players use into consideration before assigning them to lobbies. This solves the whole issue of one player base having an unfair advantage against the other. However, don't expect to be able to switch between different peripherals during a match.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch on October 25, with an open beta scheduled to occur in September.
