Following an email sent by ESL to all teams competing in ESL One: Road to Rio regarding coaching restrictions, coaches will now be able to join the game server and support their players.

The decision came after voting had concluded, and further deliberation was made. ESL's initial plan to change the coaching rules only by a unanimous vote was met with much criticism from coaches and professional players alike.

According to an HLTV report, the vote was requested by Valve after discussions with ESL and the Counter-Strike Professional Players' Association (CSPPA). These parties also weighed in on the decision.

The change comes just in time as the Europe and Americas divisions begin their matches today. Here's a look at all the dates for each division:

  • Asia & Oceania; 5/06 - 5/10
  • CIS; 4/30 - 5/17
  • Europe; 4/22 - 5/17
  • North America; 4/22 - 5/10
  • South America; 4/22 - 4/26
  • Oceania; 5/06 - 5/10

ESL One: Road to Rio will award participants with Regional Major Rankings (RMR) points, which will determine the teams that will compete in the CS:GO Major scheduled for November.
