The DreamHack Masters Spring 2020 North American Closed Qualifier began on April 18, pitting eight CS:GO teams against one another in a double-elimination bracket. With two spots available for the main event, Cloud9 managed to snatch one up yesterday.
Cloud9 first faced the New England Whalers in the Playoffs, followed by Bad News Bears, both of which they defeated 2-0. Team Envy didn’t have as smooth a ride to the Upper Bracket Finals, but they did make Cloud9 earn their spot.
Team Envy took the first map with just a two-point lead. As if enraged, Cloud9 came back in full-force for the second map, Overpass. Team Envy was utterly at their mercy, ending the map 16-5. On the final map Train, Team Envy stepped up once more, dominating Cloud9’s defenses during most of the first half, but it wasn’t enough. After a bit of back and forth, Cloud9 managed to take the map, with a reverse scoreline of Nuke, earning them their qualifier spot.
