Cloud9 has announced the departure of its former coach and analyst, Soham "valens" Chowdhury.
Joining Cloud9 in February 2017, valens began as a coach who helped them win iBUYPOWER Masters 2017, ESL One: Cologne 2017, and the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018. In July he then became the head of data science, focusing his duties on data analysis.
James "JamezIRL" Macaulay took over valens' coaching duties and restructured its entire roster. Besides taking 4th place at BLAST Pro Series Los Angeles 2019, the team hasn't seen much success.
"I plan to keep pushing the envelope when it comes to esports analytics and hope to be a part of the innumerable number of folks dedicated to turning this industry into a sustainable, ethical, and exciting one. Thank you, Cloud9 fans and family, for all the love you’ve shown me. We’ve made history, and I fully expect all of our teams will continue to do so," said valens.
Cloud9 was the first North American team to win a CS:GO Major Championship, with its ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018 victory.
Cloud9 CEO & Owner, Jack Etienne also stated: "We've accomplished incredible things with Soham, and I'm confident he will continue to find success in his future endeavours."
The analyst didn't say whether he would be looking for a new team right now. He has, however, directed all business enquiries to his Twitter account. You can find the organisation's full post here.
