The newest Chinese franchise set to join the Overwatch League in the 2019 season has just been unveiled. The Chengdu Hunters, run by a joint venture comprising Chinese livestreaming platform HUYA and Chinese esports club Royal Never Give Up, will be one of the four teams representing the Chinese region in the OWL. The organisation’s logo features a giant panda, most likely referencing the Sichuan Great Panda Sanctuaries, generally considered as the ‘homeland of pandas’.

The official press release goes into a bit more detail in regards to the team’s colour scheme, as well as the story behind the emblem:

"The panda on the logo appears in a sharp and firm outline with distinct angles. Its triangle-shaped eyes are bright with power and shine with confidence. The shape of its mouth, which is the highlight of the entire logo, features an untamed, inverted hook that perfectly embodies the fierce, dominant image of a king. In addition, the color of the logo contains the main colors of Huya and RNG, representing the joint forces of the two companies. The orange in the logo also represents vigor, the golden color represents the king, and the black represents calmness and steadiness. All combine to represent how the Chengdu Hunters will be fighting forward and striving for the championship."

More details on the Chengdu Hunters’ roster and plans moving forward will be disclosed later this month. Three more expansion franchises for the 2019 season of the Overwatch League are yet to be revealed.
