ESL has announced that Rio de Janeiro will host the first South American CS:GO Major with ESL One Rio 2020. The tournament will take place at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro from May 21-24, 2020.
Local teams like MIBR and FURIA Esports will have the full support of their home turf, which could help sway victory in their favor. The last Brazilian team to win a Major was SK Gaming at ESL One Cologne in 2016 after they defeated Team Liquid. No Brazilian team has made it to the grand finals of a Major since Immortals did in 2017, so South American fans are overdue a victory.
