RockPaperShotgun has recently talked to Borderlands 3 creative director, Paul Sage, who joined the team after a year the game had spent in the development. Interestingly, the process started four years ago, three of which Paul has been directing the team and lending his creative expertise.
According to Paul’s words, Gearbox has really brainstormed the idea of offering properly different guns this time. We always had an innumerous amount of various weapons in Borderlands, but they felt like slight alterations of each other. The creative director stresses that in Borderlands 3, you’ll be able to distinguish different guns at first glance. For instance, Hyperion weapons will be equipped with energy shields that do not only make a distinctive impression and absorb bullets – but also put these bullets in the chamber! The imagination of Borderlands devs never ceases to amaze. Alien energy guns, on the other hand, have splitting beams so that they can hit and damage multiple targets.
It’s not only about the functionality and the exterior, however. Gearbox has invested enough time to make each gun sound unique. If you hear someone shooting – you’ll know exactly what you’ll have to deal with. In other words, the triquel is not just offering billions of guns – it’s billions of unique emotions as well.
