According to a post on TeamLiquid.net, Blizzard's global esports director announced that she has resigned from her position at the company. Effective from June 14, this adds more credence to Dexerto's report about several upcoming high level resignations at Blizzard from an anonymous source.
With over 13 years of service, Kim Phan's resignation follows that of Overwatch League Commissioner, Nate Nanzer, who is believed to be the first of many more departures to come. ESPN confirms that shortly after, Nanzer took up a job overseeing competitive esports at Epic Games.
This predicted exodus from the company is believed to be due to low morale, borne from a lack of faith in high level management. “Right now, there’s a feeling that a lot of the senior management just don’t understand esports,” said one of their sources. Another source added, “but there is no room for negotiating with these people. They are convinced their vision, which is more in line with televised sports, is the right way to go and it has just made people miserable.”
How many more resignations we will see in the coming weeks is unsure, but Activision Blizzard has been receiving a lot of negative publicity recently, from its announcement and management of Diablo Immortal, to its mass layoffs just after "a record high year for net revenue."
In a heartwarming post, Phan chronicles her time at Blizzard, thanks the community and announces she will be attending Blizzcon "as a diehard fan."
