Blizzard Entertainment has released the original Diablo on GOG and is planning to send both Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II the same way.
Here is what Rob Bridenbecker, Blizzard vice president and executive producer said in a statement:
We were bummed that these iconic games weren’t available to our players, so we‘re very happy to work with the crew at GOG.com to rectify that. This has been a long time coming and we hope our players will be excited to jump back into these classic titles.
It’s weird that Blizzard won’t just release the games through Battle.Net, since it sells Diablo II there. The decision hints at a Diablo II remaster, though it’s a long shot. If it’s true, we might get confirmation during the next BlizzCon.
At the very least, players get legal access to Diablo 1, though the price on the game could seem quite steep — not everyone would gladly ditch 10 bucks for a game that launched in 1997 (on December 31, 1996, to be precise).
