In the period between BlizzCon and the WCS 2019 Winter announcement, the StarCraft 2 community was holding its breath, worried that Blizzard would abandon the World Championship Series. Fortunately, things worked out, and we are already neck deep in tons of games between WCS, IEM Katowice and GSL.
Blizzard has announced the plans for the rest of the events in the WCS Circuit. StarLadder will host the Spring and Summer events of the circuit in Kiev, Ukraine.
We are excited to be returning to Ukraine for two majors, for the first time since MMA won an IEM championship against DIMAGA in 2012.
The fourth WCS Circuit event will take place during Dreamhack Montreal, like the year before.
The rest of the World Championship Series works pretty much the same as in the previous years. GSL is still working as the Korean side of WCS, providing three seasons and two weekend events (Super Tournaments). There will also be GSL vs. The World, where the strongest foreigners will challenge the Koreans.
In November, Blizzard will fly the 16 best players for WCS Finals with $500,000 prize pull plus the funds, raised through the WarChest sales.
