The recent months were marked with Epic Games’ predatory strategy to outsmart Valve and attract more publishers to its own digital PC store instead of Steam. The most tangible losses of Valve’s store were Metro Exodus and The Division 2, which both released in Epic Store.
Luckily, Bethesda is not among those companies that rush to a cheaper alternative (Epic takes a lesser cut of profits than Valve). It is worth noting that Bethesda has its very own digital storefront/service unimaginatively called Bethesda.net. Many gamers feared that the company would shift towards its store completely after Fallout 76 happened to be Bethesda.net exclusive, but everything has changed due to the recent official announcement (via Twitter). The company says that its newest upcoming titles, such as RAGE 2, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, and DOOM Eternal, are releasing simultaneously on Steam and Bethesda.net. Moreover, Fallout 76 is joining Steam’s library as well in the course of 2019.
This is indeed great news for the gaming community since Epic Games Store is being criticized for its weak points and a poor set of features. Luckily, Bethesda recognizes that the devoted Steam community includes long-time fans of the company’s games, and these gamers are unlikely to move anywhere from their beloved PC gaming service.
