Best Games of Previous Week #2 ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!
The past week (December 4 - 10) has brought us a lot of games to be excited about, and as an outcome, we have a few major releases as well as a bunch of long-awaited ports for some specific platforms. In the compilation listed below you'll find all sorts of genres to satisfy your special tastes, and in case you've missed something we are kindly inviting you to take a look at the following games.
Subnautica
This deeply calming and meditative ocean-exploration/survival game has finally made it to the consoles. Picturesque depths of the underwater open world will leave you breathless, while the charmingly relaxing gameplay will bring you peace and tranquillity. Subnautica is not a harmless exhibition though, as you are tasked to survive in unexplored alien waters. Console experience might be even better than it was on PC due to the fact that Subnautica was thoroughly ported as a final product, and we sincerely recommend you give it a try even if you've completed the game on a computer.
Released on: PS4, Xbox One.
Just Cause 4
Avalanche Studios is nowhere close to abandoning its long-lasting series of open world destructive action games. Once again Rico Rodriguez takes on a hostile regime to liberate an exotic tropical island and its civilian population. Once again we get to play around within a huge sandbox with a vast variety of ways to enjoy yourself putting thrusts on cows and "lassoing" aircrafts. Once again developers promise an even more engaging experience, but this time just by the looks of dynamic weather in the form of devastating storms and tornados we are pretty much convinced that it's true. As always, Rico is free to put his hands on a rich set of vehicles, weaponry and gadgets, but please do remember: Just Cause is only good if you have the required imagination to release its potential - and are willing to do so. Otherwise, you might find the game a bit dull and boring.
Released on: PS4, Xbox One, PC.
Beholder 2
The sequel to the dystopian indie strategy/adventure Beholder has released in its full 3D glory - unlike its original predecessor that was executed in 2D. The scale of the game has also made a drastic change. Reporting the inhabitants of an apartment house was fun, but the real fun is waiting for you in Beholder 2 where you take the role of a promising Ministry employee. It's up to you to decide who you want to be and you can even follow the road that leads to the highest position of the Minister. If you think that building a career in a dystopian world ruled by the Dear Leader is a journey of mischief, betrayals and denunciations - then you are absolutely right.
Released on: PC.
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden
Our next guest is an intriguing blend of real-time world exploration, stealth mechanics, turn-based fights and post-apocalyptic setting. Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden draws a picture of Earth where the very concept of humans and humanity is withered away by the outcomes of a nuclear war. Mutants are ravaging the planet, and your squad of main characters consists of anthropomorphous boar, drake and fox accompanied by a girl that looks just like a regular Homo Sapiens. But don't get fooled - she's a mutant too, capable of turning her skin into stone. Gameplay wise, this game might well become your new favourite, in case you were delighted by the recent XCOM games.
Released on: PS4, Xbox One, PC.
The Council
Mysterious detective adventure The Council has finally come to a conclusion with the release of its fifth and final episode eloquently titled Checkmate. If you are not familiar with this episodic story, now is the perfect time to take a dip into its dense atmosphere of secrets, intrigues and conspiracies. The Council is blessed with an exceptional cast of historical characters with Napoleon and George Washington among others. The main character is less recognizable, to say the least as he is fictional, but Louis de Richet has the guts to confront such powerful and famous personalities. He's on track to uncover the mystery of his missing mother - with this riddle being just the tip of the iceberg.
Released on: PS4, Xbox One, PC.
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales
CD Projekt RED just can't get over the Witcher, it's like a blessing judging by the worldwide recognition the studio earned - but also a curse in a way. They simply can't announce anything without it being compared to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - like the fans do in case of Cyberpunk 2077. Luckily, the new game is a Witcher one - and it's a proper RPG, although the main focus is on the CCG mechanics. It's like Gwent was a mini-game in the Witcher series, and now we have the role-playing aspect of it as a mini-game in a fully-fledged card game. Thronebreaker was originally planned as an expansion for the standalone Gwent, yet it grew up to become a separate game thanks to the efforts put into the story. It's already available on PC - and now Thronebreaker is expanding onto consoles.
Released on: PS4, Xbox One.
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game
Another one by CDPR to mention the Witcher in its title, the standalone Gwent is experiencing the full release on consoles as well. It's a take on the popular industry formula where you pick a well-established video game universe and introduce it to the CCG genre - the way it happened to Warcraft with Hearthstone, Dota 2 with Artifact, etc. Still, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is great on its own if you are a fan of card games and are willing to find a source of fresh experience.
Released on: PS4, Xbox One.
Jagged Alliance: Rage!
What a time to be alive - the Jagged Alliance franchise is being resurrected after it ingloriously flopped with Flashback back in 2014. The series' rebirth comes in form of the latest entry titled Jagged Alliance: Rage! Yet again we lead a group of mercenaries into tactical turn-based battles - two decades after the events of the original game. The nightmarish jungles are waiting for you in case the nostalgia is strong upon you.
Released on: PS4, Xbox One, PC.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
The world's second most popular Battle Royale shooter has reached the world's most popular home console of the current generation. PUBG is now available on PS4 in a desperate attempt to catch up with increasingly popular Fortnite. There's not much to say about the game that's been floating around since March 2017 and initiated the trend of turning good games into Battle Royale ones. But if you are a fan of the genre and are willing to have a more realistic alternative to the cartoonish project by Epic Games on your PS4, then PUBG is the way to go.
Released on: PS4.
