DICE and EA Games are launching premium currency in Battlefield V to unlock microtransactions in the game. At first, players will get access to cosmetic items, later the developers will introduce what they called "The Elite" (unique character skins) and Time Savers.
Here us how EA describes The Elite:
— Each Elite is a unique character with a name and background. They consist of a themed assortment of cosmetic items, character voice-overs, a Best Squad animation, and an exclusive Special Assignment that helps bring to life the story of the Elite and unlocks a signature melee weapon.
Time savers is something like Battle Pass in a game where Battle Passes are given out by default — players will be able to get all the rewards without earning them through normal gameplay.
Can't say that what EA did was unexpected. You don't get to just purchase a game for $60 and forget about paying more for it nowadays. There are tons of players enjoying Battlefield V through premium subscription and the publisher will do all it can to milk more money from them. Fortunately, titles like Fortnite and PUBG have established a health industry standard: charge players for skins; don't mix microtransactions and gameplay.
At least, Battlefield V doesn't have three in-game currencies like some Blizzard titles do.
