Two days ago, the Australian squad began building up to its Overwatch World Cup 2019 (OWWC) roster announcement by highlighting possible picks. Today it revealed who these players are.
The only Overwatch League (OWL) player on the roster is Ashley “Trill” Powell, with Scott "Custa" Kennedy of the Los Angeles Valiant unfortunately unable to attend. Trill who plays for Dallas Fuel in OWL will be the team's Main Tank.
Leyton "Punk" Gilchrist of Uprising Academy returns with fellow 2018 squad mate, Felix “ckm” Murray. Murray normally plays DPS and comes out of retirement to join the team. Jason "ieatuup" Ho who plays for Chinese organisation, Team CC will play hitscan DPS instead of Huseyin "Hus" Sahin of Warriors Esports.
Giorgio “Tongue” Lahdo also of Warriors Esports and Max “Unter” Unterwurzacher of ORDER will both play Support. In a surprising move, the seventh player slot was given to Sam “face” Merewether to act as assistant coach. He used to play Support for the Sydney Drop Bears but is currently Talon Esports' assistant coach.
Jordan “Gunba” Graham is the team's coach, with Andrew “rqt” Haws as the team manager and Jarrod "frogger" Meredith taking the role of community lead.
Australia dropped out of OWWC 2018 when they were defeated by South Korea in the quarter-finals and they also attended the two World Cups before that one. Overwatch World Cup 2019 will begin on November 1.
