Yesterday marked the end of ESL One: Road to Rio - Europe, with Astralis winning the day after beating G2 Esports 3-0 in the Grand Final.

The first Regional Major Ranking event in Europe began with 16 teams split between two groups in the first stage. Astralis topped Group A with Ninjas in Pyjamas hot on their heels, while G2 Esports emerged from Group B in second place. Meeting in their first Upper Bracket match, Astralis sent G2 Esports to the Losers Bracket with a 2-0 win. They went on to beat FaZe Clan with the same score in the Upper Bracket Finals to secure their spot in the Grand Finals.

G2 Esports fought their way through the Losers Bracket, defeating Team Heretics, Team Vitality, and FaZe Clan, to earn a rematch against Astralis. The Danish esports organization showed their opponents no mercy. On Nuke, they finished 16-6, while Vertigo ended with a 16-2 score. Coupled with their map advantage as the Upper Bracket team, Astralis proved themselves the dominant team.

Here are the top 4 tournament standings:

  • 1. Astralis - $33,000 + 1,600 RMR points

  • 2. G2 Esports - $21,500 + 1,500 RMR points

Two more as yet unannounced Regional Major Ranking events remain. Accumulated points at these events serve as the qualifying system for the CS:GO Major Championships, with

ESL One Rio being the first. Eleven teams from the European region will compete in the Major.

The online tournament, ESL One: Road to Rio - Europe, took place from April 22 to May 17. It featured a total prize pool of $115,000 and 13,600 RMR points.
