We’ve recently reported that Apex Legends hit whopping 50 million downloads since its launch, making it a contender for the title of top Battle Royale game alongside Fortnite. In a recent interview for WePlay! a streamer named GrndPaGaming, who has been playing FPS titles since they started to exist, said Apex Legends was “the most complete first-person shooter Battle Royal upon launch I have ever seen.”
Respawn Entertainment wants to keep the momentum going and also reap the rewards along the way. To make that happen, the developers are working on a Battle Pass, which should come to the game soon.
Battle Pass is a multi-purpose tool for popular games like Fortnite, Dota 2, Rocket League and many others. Here are the main advantages it gives:
• Incentivizes players to come back to the game to get additional items.
• Allows to streamline content updates.
• Can be used as a milestone for the competitive scene (e.g. 1 Battle Pass = 1 competitive season)
• A great monetization method for the developer.
According to a roadmap shared by Respawn, there will be four competitive seasons throughout the year, with the first one starting in March, meaning that the first Battle Pass could be right around the corner.
Beginning of the first season is also an excellent time for Respawn to release Octane, the new playable character which was leaked recently. You can read more about Octane here.
