Apex Legends has a pretty fair loot box system in terms of dropping loot. First of all, you’ll never get “a double” due to the fact that dropped cosmetic items never repeat themselves. Secondly, there’s a guaranteed probability of dropping the rarest ones. For example, you get a legendary item once every 30 opened packs, but there’s a lot more demanding situation when it comes up to Heirloom items.

What are those? Strictly speaking, Heirloom items are the rarest ones in the game and even more valuable than legendary ones. Heirlooms are uncraftable, and the only way you can get them is through opening Apex Packs. They do also have a fixed probability of dropping – once every 500 packs. Sure enough, there’s a slight chance that Heirlooms might drop a lot earlier, but the 500 pack drop rate is a guaranteed one no matter what. And there’s a dedicated player who set himself a goal to achieve – to receive the aforementioned Heirlooms through opening Apex Packs. You might’ve already guessed the outcome as we’ve spoiled the surprise in the title.

The player told his story on Reddit, having stated that he had a few friends who received Heirlooms after opening just a few packs. He thought the same would happen to him, but sadly, he ended up spending $500 to buy 500 loot boxes until he got the guaranteed Heirloom drop. Right now, the only character with Heirlooms available is Wraith, but there’re undoubtedly more to come.
