Anthem might eventually go free-to-play ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!

Anthem is in an indisputably poor state right now as we’ve learned from the recent news. The top creative executives behind the game moved forwards to work on the next Dragon Age, which is rather troubling on its own, and on top of that, the player base is uncontrollably shrinking.

BioWare’s decision to focus on Dragon Age 4 might be considered an indirect confirmation from the developers that Anthem has done badly and actually flopped. We’ve reported on the existing issues multiple times before, and now there’re rumours in regards to the possible future of the game. MMOG Fails blog has shared some insider information collected thanks to the anonymous source in BioWare. We should warn you that there’s no way to confirm these rumours, so take everything you read further with a grain of salt.

The first part of the rumour touches upon the possibility of adding Anthem in EA Access subscription library. If that’s true, you’ll be able to play Anthem along with a vast variety of other EA titles for just a monthly payment. This particular information – unlike what’s about to follow – can be somewhat justified thanks to the official plans of EA and Sony to bring EA Access to PS4. Since Anthem is available on both PS4 and Xbox One, the decision to add the game to the subscription service seems reasonable.

The second part of the rumour suggests that Anthem might eventually go free-to-play if the EA Access tactics don’t help the game reach a wider audience and draw much-needed attention. It’s rather hard to believe, but let’s recall the original plans of BioWare regarding the game. The studio initially planned to make Anthem free-to-play, although EA insisted on the paid model.

In case the game indeed goes free-to-play, it will be a huge example of disrespect towards those players who paid the full price for Anthem upon the release. Right now, the Reddit community of the game is already freaking out over these rumours.
