Yesterday was the anniversary of the day John "TotalBiscuit" Bain passed away. He was a British game critic, sports commentator, YouTuber and journalist. John lost his long battle against cancer on May, 24th, 2018.
He was a very significant man for the industry: in times of moral and ethical uncertainty of Western gaming media, John stood firmly on the side of consumers. He was never afraid to express his often sharp opinion on one game or another, he openly criticized the doubtful decisions of companies. But at the same time, he promoted and popularized the projects of developers who really tried to give the audience the best possible product. John was so loved in some communities that even the developers of Warframe in tears interrupted their stream when they heard about his death.
TotalBiscuit was also not the last person in esports. He piously believed that he had a future, and in every way tried to promote a variety of games. From League of Legends, that now has an item named after him, to Dota 2 and his fun games with Dendi, through his eternal love for StarCraft II, where he even owned a professional team. His trail is so significant that at the moment he is the only non-professional player included in the hall of fame of esports. Blizzard Entertainment is still selling his voicepack for StarCraft II, all the money from which is transferred to his family.
One can talk forever about his merits. Naturally, John was not always right — like any other human being — but he always followed his principles and was a good example of journalistic morality and ethics. He considered himself obliged to stand on the side of consumers until the very last moment, and did not stop making content until his strength finally left him.
Rest in peace, John Bain. Hopefully, all games in heaven have FoV sliders.
