Shareholder advocates from As You Sow group have recently published an eye-catching report regarding most overpaid CEOs. The chart consisting of a hundred of companies hosted two from the gaming industry, and you will be hardly surprised when you learn the exact names.
The idea of being overpaid comes from a comparison between the CEO’s annual earnings and those of a median employee of the company. The median ratio is 142:1, which already sounds insane. The specific ones for the companies listed are even more eyebrow-raising. The two companies from the gaming industry that made it to the list are Activision and Electronic Arts with their respective CEOs. Activision’s Bobby Kotick occupies 45th place with annual earnings of $28 million. As You Sow claims that Kotick is being overpaid by $13 million of that sum while the CEO/employee ratio stands at 301:1. EA’s Andrew Wilson made it to 98th place with $35 million of annual earnings thus being overpaid by $19 million. The ratio is 371:1.
The overall situation is once again raising awareness of financial unfairness and instability in huge companies representing the gaming industry. Sadly, the report doesn’t propose any solution to the problem. Activision, for instance, has recently made it to the news headlines when the company reported on its record profits while laying off 8% of its staff.
