The iconic Mortal Kombat movie, which premiered back in 1995 with Christopher Lambert as the perfect fit for Raiden, is loved by many devoted fans, although the legacy of the film was somewhat molested with a sequel and two TV series. Luckily, we are about to witness the glorious return.

Mortal Kombat is pure gold in terms of delivering the cinematic experience – the video game series has everything required to turn it into an entertaining action movie, and the original film proved it could be done with the right intentions. Although the glorious march of the film was spoiled by further theatrical and TV releases, there’s been a web series/remake of sorts, which proved that the concept behind Mortal Kombat can be harmlessly interpreted for modern viewers. And now, Warner Bros. has finally started the production of yet another attempt to turn the fighting game into a worthy movie. The new film will be shot entirely in South Australia, and the picture is already being called the biggest one for the region, although there aren’t any particularly big names involved in the direct production. However, James Wan – the director of “Aquaman” and many other movies – is the executive producer of the newest Mortal Kombat.

The film will tell the story of a fighter who finds himself caught between the two dimensions that are about to clash within the violent fighting tournament. This character might be an original one, although we’ll definitely see the return of many iconic kombatants.
