Mortal Kombat 11 — a $60 game which makes you grind or pay for Fatalities ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!

Mortal Kombat 11 players are complaining that a lot of game content is hidden behind a nasty grind/paywalls. Here is what you need to work hard or spend additional money for:

  • Character intros/outros
  • Brutalities/Fatalities
  • Skins
  • Single-player gear “augments”
  • Throwaway stuff like banners and icons

The fans of fighting games noticed Towers of Time (single-player kontent) look like multiverses in Injustice 2.

This sounds normal for a free-to-play mobile game which needs to find a way to monetize itself, but predatory for a triple-A title which costs $60 and expensive DLCs. Add to the fact, that much of the locked kontent was used in those awesome promotional videos, and the grind/paywall gets pushed to the grey territory which borders on scamming.

The NetherRealm Studios developers confirmed that they are aware of the problem and the patch is coming “ASAP”.

In the conversation that was taking place after this clip, the NRS representatives explained that the fix would not come in the form of a full-fledged patch. Instead, the developers will tinker with the backend engine of the game to, presumably, increase the drop rates. That’s good news by itself, but opens the predatory system intact – players will still have to “unlock” kontent they had paid for.

Do you think that it’s fair to make players grind or pay for fatalities and skins in a $60 game?
