3 things to know from an upset-filled Day 3 of Worlds

1. Another Wildcard upset

This time, it was Russia’s Albus Nox Luna against Counter Logic Gaming. The Wildcard teams are having a great tournament, starting with Brazil’s INTZ e-Sports taking down EDward Gaming. group implications. There were two near-upsets as well. ROX Tigers’ worrisome early game problems returned, as G2 Esports held a lead for most of the game before eventually losing. Likewise, Team SoloMid fell behind early to Splyce, but survived for a comeback win.

2. Korea goes 3-0

Defending champion SK Telecom T1 followed up its clinical win against Cloud9 with another clean victory against I May, Samsung pulled off the aforementioned upset of RNG and ROX, while not without problems, still looks a few steps ahead of all of its competition.

There are many good teams in this tournament that could compete for the title. All three Korean teams are included in that group.

3. Group D just got very interesting

Coming into the tournament we thought it would be the Group of Death, and it’s really looking like that’s the case. There are three 2-1 teams in the group (sorry, 0-3 Splyce) -- RNG, Samsung and TSM — and all three have looked excellent in wins so far.

The second week of the Worlds’ group stage assigns each group to a day, with each team playing each of the other teams in its group once on that day, for a total of three games per team. Mark Saturday, October 8 on your calendar, because that’s when this group gets solved, starting with Samsung vs. TSM at 4 p.m. ET.
