The rumor about the 2020 Mid-Season Invitational being canceled has now been proven correct as Riot global head of esports John Needham made the announcement today.
The decision was made to cancel due to the coronavirus pandemic. The MSI had been previously postponed till July, but to ensure the health and safety of all, Riot Games has now opted to cancel the event entirely.
In line with the Fomos.kr report, the cancellation of MSI will affect the seeding for the League of Legends World Championship 2020. As the LPL and LEC are currently ranked first and second, thanks to their international performances over the last two years, each region will seed four teams for Worlds 2020. Also, the VCS will provide a second seed for having the strongest international performances out of all the single-seed leagues.
Here is the new League of Legends World Championship 2020 regional seed distributions.
LPL and LEC: Four teams each
LCK and LCS: Three teams each
PCS and VCS: Two teams each
CBLOL, TCL, LJL, LLA, OPL, and LCL: One team each
As we draw closer to Worlds 2020, more information will be released.
