The Magic: The Gathering Arena collectable card game will soon be the part of esports. The developers from Wizards of the Coast told about the upcoming tournament in their game - Mythic Invitational.

According to Elaine Chase, the vice president of the esports Wizards of the Coast company, this event will mark the beginning of the esports era in Magic.

Not only professional players, but also popular streamers will compete in the battle for the first place and $250’000 prize. The total prize pool is $1’000’000.

The event will take place from March 28th to March 31st in Boston, Massachusetts, during PAX East 2019. The Mythic Invitational matches will be played Duo Standard system, until two victories. You need to choose two decks of the “Standard” format to participate in it. Players are not allowed to modify decks between games. Gamers have the right to select two similar or completely different decks.

The number of participants in the tournament is 64 players, and everyone will get a cash prize:

  • 1st place: $250’000

  • 2nd place: $125’000

  • 3rd place: $70’000

  • 4th place: $45’000

  • 5-6 places: $12’500

  • 17-64 places: $7’500

Wizards of the Coast will publish a rating of players every week during February so that applicants can monitor their progress until February 28. The final results will be announced on March 4th.
